Red Sox, Cubs Agree on “Chris Carpenter” as Theo Epstein “Compensation” – Fenway Park 2/22/12
The Red Sox finally get their man – Chris Carpenter. No not “that” Chris Carpenter, but the Cubs minor league reliever who goes by the same name. Carpenter is the “compensation” that the Cubs are “paying” the Red Sox for stealing GM Theo Epstein away from Boston back in October. What a joke. The Cubs should have given us Starlin Castro or Matt Garza or Brett Jackson – someone who will actually excel at the major league level.
Who knows what this kid Carpenter is going to give us. Sure he made 10 MLB appearances for the Cubs last year with a decent ERA (3.26), but it doesn’t seem like he is going to be any better than a decent bullpen guy. I guess we could use him given our recent bullpen woes, but I was really hoping for someone big.
Oh well. At least the compensation issue is finally behind us and now we can get on with taking control of the AL East back from the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays!
