Boston Red Sox Owe $1.5 Million in Luxury Tax – Fenway Park 12/21/10

The Boston Red Sox exceeded the 2010 MLB payroll threshold and owe $1.5 million in luxury tax. It is the 1st time that the Red Sox have had to pay a luxury tax since 2007. The Red Sox are the only team other than the New York Yankees who have to pay any luxury […]

Good News Red Sox Fans — Yankees Have “Off” Winter — Fenway Park 12/20/10

Great news Red Sox fans – the Yankees have conceded an “off” winter for the 1st time in a long time.

The Red Sox have added another piece to their evolving bullpen mix – Dan Wheeler. Wheller pitched for the Tampa Bay Rays each of the last 3 seasons and averaged 68 appearances per season in one of the best bullpens in baseball. He was 2-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 56 appearances for the […]

Red Sox Lose Out on Matt Guerrier; Set Sights on Matt Albers — Fenway Park 12/15/10

It looks like the Red Sox have lost out on Matt Guerrier to fill a much-needed bullpen void. Guerrier has agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Dodgers on a 3-year, $12 million deal. Crazy numbers for a good reliever. Guerrier has made at least 70 appearances in each of the last 4 seasons, […]

Cliff Lee Signs with Phillies — Hip Hip Hooray! — Fenway Park 12/14/10

Phew — I let out a huge sigh of relief when I heard that the Phillies had signed Cliff Lee instead of the New York Yankees. What beautiful words to my ears.

Had Lee signed with the Yankees, I would have felt a lot worse about our chances to win the AL East and […]

Red Sox Make Formal Offer to Russell Martin — Fenway Park 12/10/10

In an interesting move, the Red Sox have made a formal contract offer to catcher Russell Martin. As we reported earlier this week, although the Red Sox say they are content with going with a Jarrod Saltalamacchia / Jason Varitek combo for the 2011 MLB schedule, this move seems to refute that contention. I […]
