“Run to Home Base” Campaign Helps Veterans
The Red Sox and Massachusetts General Hospital have announced a 9K “Run to Home Base” which will benefit the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Home Base Program. The program will help serve veterans from the New England area who have returned from tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan and who are suffering from post-traumatic distress symptoms or traumatic brain injuries.
The run will take place on Sunday May 23rd. The 1st 3,500 people who sign up for the race get to run. Each person is supposed to raise at least $1,000 for the fundraiser. The race is designed to have a great scenic view of the city and will finish with a dash across home plate inside Fenway Park.
Red Sox Chariman Tom Werner had this to say about the benefit: “It’s also a great opportunity for fans to show their support for many local heroic servicemen and women who have served all of us.”
Sounds like a great idea by the Red Sox and Massachusetts General Hospital. Let’s hope it gets a lot of publicity and draws a lot of fans and citizens to this noble cause…
