Red Sox Owners Optimistic About Successful 2010

Boston Red Sox owners – John W. Henry, Tom Werner and Larry Lucchino – are optimistic about the state of the Red Sox for the 2010 MLB schedule.  In a few short weeks – 7 or so – the venue will switch from Fort Myers, Florida to beautiful Fenway Park in Boston.  The Red Sox won’t get any time to “ease” into the season, as they will host the defending World Champion New York Yankees in MLB’s opening weekend game on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.  What a way to start the season.

CEO Lucchino had this to say about the whole experience: “It’s always a challenge.  We’re at 550 sellouts and counting.  It is a challenge.  But we think fan loyalty is so broad and so deep that we think there’s a good chance that it will continue.  Nut once you get to this level, you’re at a new place, and it’s very hard to predict what’s going to happen… I do think the sellouts affect the team.  There is nothing like playing in front of a full ballpark, a completely sold-out Fenway Park, in terms of energy and electricity that’s in the ballpark.”

Principal Owner Henry stated: “I think it’s a very strong team… We think this is a very strong team, stronger than last year… I feel very positively about this team.”

Lucchino commented on the team’s balance and depth as well: “We’ve been saying from the beginning that it’s about balance.  You’ve got to have defense, you’ve got to have some baserunning skills, you’ve got to have some power, you’ve got to hit for average, you’ve got to have guys who can walk and work the count.  You’ve got to have it all, and this team has that, and hopefully that will be enough to make us successful.”

Gotta love it – this baseball season is going to be a fun one for Red Sox fans averywhere – I have a good feeling about it…
