Casey Kelly – Hot Red Sox Prospect & Future Star
Prized Red Sox prospect Casey Kelly is getting his full share of action during the 2009 baseball calendar.
Kelly pitched 100 innings for the Class A Advanced Salem and Class A Greenville affiliates in the Red Sox organization during the 1st part of the season. He racked up an incredible 2.08 ERA in 17 starts, with a 7-5 record.
Then the Red Sox had him play 40 games at shortstop at Greenville and the Rookie-level Gulf Coast league squad. His batting average wasn’t great – .222 – but he did have 22 runs scored and 16 RBI’s.
And now, the Red Sox have sent Kelly to the Arizona Fall League to play for the Mesa Solar Sox.
Kelly is excited about the opportunity to continue his baseball learning and development no matter what it takes – “You have to pace yourself. It’s been a long season already. You don’t want to get too tired. So you’re not taking 10,000 ground balls, but you’re taking them at game speed.”
Let’s hope Kelly will be ready and able to help the Red Sox at Fenway Park one day soon. It looks to be a bright future for the young stud with the Red Sox organization…
